Patience — it’s at the center of everything Dr. Kristyn Klei Borrero does. For the past 20 years, she has dedicated her life to making a profound difference in the professional lives of educators across the country.

Dr. Klei Borrero is an accomplished educational leader and coach who has committed herself to improving the education of students in traditionally disenfranchised schools and has witnessed education through the lens of a classroom teacher, principal, area superintendent, and co-founder of CT3.

As a principal, Dr. Klei Borrero saw a need to help teachers become highly effective faster. She tried numerous approaches and partnerships but realized there was a gap that needed to be filled. Enter CT3 — an organization that supports educators through effective, timely and thorough feedback. CT3 saw a better way to help educators in underserved communities succeed on day one, to create culturally relevant environments where life-altering relationships between students and teachers can grow, and to develop the strengths and talents of teachers through coaching and professional development strategies that are more than effective, they’re transformative.

Dr. Klei Borrero and her co-founder Lee Canter led the research and development of No-Nonsense NurturerŪ and Real Time Teacher CoachingŪ, two of the most innovative, transformative professional development models in education today. No-Nonsense Nurturer was born out of her observation of high-performing teachers. She used the findings to leverage their successful tactics to build up struggling teachers. Dr. Klei Borrero is also a noted contributor to national education blogs, trade journals and news media.

Dr. Klei Borrero earned her Doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a firm believer in transparency in education, especially in regard to educational inequity. As an educational leader, Dr. Klei Borrero spent more than a decade leading turnaround initiatives for underperforming schools in Oakland and East Palo Alto, California. Under her supervision, she propelled schools to significantly exceed all state academic benchmarks, organizational fundraising and financial goals, teacher retention rates, and family and student satisfaction ratings.

For Dr. Klei Borrero, learning is a lifelong pursuit and every second counts. The Cincinnati native turned San Francisco resident makes time to listen to audiobooks while traveling, getting ready and walking through airports. She also believes in forming strong relationships. She values in-person bonding and makes it a point to hold CT3 meetings and team retreats in-person across the country.

Outside of work, Dr. Klei Borrero still finds time for adventure. She loves traveling to “big wave” surf spots with her husband, visiting her two nephews and brand-new niece, cooking new recipes and spending time with her dog, Billie.
