Patrick Fisher

Patrick Fisher is a professor of political science at Seton Hall University. He has done wide-ranging research in the areas of American political behavior, Congress, and public budgeting and has published six books and dozens of journal articles and book chapters. At Seton Hall he teaches courses on American Political Behavior, Elections, Congress, and the Presidency. Professor Fisher’s current research has focused on generational politics in the United States, the topic of his most recent book The Generational Gap in American Politics (Routledge 2023). This work builds off research on demographic divides in American politics he did in the book Demographic Gaps in American Political Behavior (Westview 2014). He has also applied his research on demographic gaps in American politics to congressional representation, the topic of his work Insufficient Representation: The Disconnect between Congress and Its Citizens (Lexington 2018). Additionally, he has done extensive research on the federal budget process, the subject of his books The Politics of Taxing and Spending (Lynne Rienner 2009), Congressional Budgeting: A Representational Perspective (University Press of America 2005), and with David Nice, Public Budgeting, (Birkdale, 3rd edition 2021).
