Chris C McNulty

Australian-American jazz vocalist Chris McNulty moved to the United States in 1988 having been a fixture on the New York jazz scene for almost three decades before relocating back to Australia in late 2015. Ms. McNulty has made frequent appearances at international jazz and arts festivals around the world including the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Kilkenny Arts (Ireland), Breckon Jazz (Wales, UK), Kharkov Jazz (Ukraine) and Petrozavodsk Jazz (Russia) as well as Perth, Wangaratta and Melbourne International Jazz festivals. Among the impressive list of jazz musicians she has performed and recorded with are the late great pianists Mulgrew Miller and John Hicks, saxophonists Gary Bartz, Gary Thomas, Frank Wess, Tineke Postma and Joel Frahm, drummers Billy Hart, Matt Wilson, Montez Coleman, Tony Reedus and Marcus Gilmore and long time colleagues, bassist Ugonna Okegwo and guitarist Paul Bollenback. Her seven album releases in the USA have received wide critical acclaim including her latest album, "Eternal", a chamber ensemble and jazz quintet collaboration with Australian orchestrator, Steve Newcomb which placed #11 on the 80th DownBeat Readers Poll in America.

The American magazine Jazz Times has described her vocalizing as “fearless” and her composing as “peerless.” Britain’s Jazz Wise magazine describes her as possessing “a voice of serene beauty, striking veracity and compelling emotional fervency.’’

In 2013 Chris was the recipient of the Australian Jazz Bell award for the Best Australian Jazz Vocal Album for "The Song That Sings You Here." VCM- Vocalist As Complete Musician published in late 2017 and is McNulty’s first educational publication. VCM has received outstanding endorsements from top jazz educator-musicians including Bob Stoloff and Dena De Rose.

Now based in Melbourne, Australia Chris McNulty continues to tour internationally and returns to the USA frequently. She is currently working on a new originals project.
