Steve Milsom

Steve Milsom was born in England in 1969. With a successful career in Industrial Design behind him he dabbled with a few short stories before deciding to embark on his first novel, 'Mandarin Doom' in 2018.

Contrary to what the title may suggest, the HSS Mandarin is a deep space vessel gifted by the Chinese to the rest of the world in order to further mankind's understanding of the universe. 'Doom' introduces us to the Mandarin's crew under the command of Hudson Meyer. A perilous sequence of events begin to unravel on the ship and the situation threatens to escalate out of control. In order to protect his crew, Hudson and his team are plunged headlong into a desperate struggle for survival.

Born from his passion for monster movies, Steve used the creative freedom provided by the SF Fantasy platform in order to craft an engaging and passionate monster story. Taking his cue from the film 'The Thing', he has unleashed something suitably nasty on a planet occupied by dinosaurs. Combining interesting characters with a whole host of human dramas the narrative is brimming with excitement and adventure on every page.

Encouraged by positive feedback on 'Doom', the follow up sequel 'Mandarin Hell' followed in 2019 with a slightly different take on the story. Introducing new characters and a change of pace and direction, 'Hell' continued to rack up the tension while leaving readers keen for more.

2020 saw the release of 'Mandarin Apex', bringing the alien monster saga to an epic climax. Join the team as they combat a truly nightmarish adversary against a backdrop of military intervention, nefarious criminals and yet more dinosaurs.

As well as writing the books, Steve has also designed the vehicles used in the saga. The dropship from the 'Mandarin' adorns the cover of 'Doom' and 'Hell' while the military ships, 'Pegasus', 'Nimrod' and the 'Baby Jane' appear on the cover of 'Apex'. Hudson's trusty 'Spartan' can be found on the back cover of both 'Doom' and 'Apex', while the 'Rakoon' from the second story can be seen on the back of 'Mandarin Hell'.
