Bill Fleck

BILL FLECK is a writer and a freelance musician. His books include:

GIMME A SHOW: 50 YEARS ON THE ROCK & ROLLERCOASTER (an unauthorized biography of trombonist James Pankow of the rock group Chicago), which has received overwhelmingly positive reviews.

NOT THE DUDE: JEFF BRIDGES AND THE SEARCH FOR SELF (the first of a proposed two-volume unauthorized biography of the Oscar-winning actor). Bill was interviewed extensively in the Zeta Productions documentary JEFF BRIDGES: A RELUCTANT STAR airing on French TV.

CHANEY'S BABY: LON JR., THE WOLF MAN, 1948, AND THE END OF A DREAM--a biographical piece about the horror icon's suicide attempt in 1948--which was nominated for a RONDO HATTON CLASSIC HORROR Award (Best Nonfiction Book) in 2022.

CHANEY'S AUDITION, a bookend to CHANEY'S BABY that deals with a more positive time in Lon Chaney, Jr.'s life...a time when he was up for a long-term contract with Universal Studios that promised a variety of roles. It was awarded a Rondo Honorable Mention in 2025 (Best Book, Nonfiction).

Bill has been nominated four times for a Rondo in the Best Website category for his blog, BILL FLECK’S CLASSIC HORROR BEHIND THE SCENES. It scored an Honorable Mention in 2025.

Currently, Bill is at work drafting BELA'S MONSTER, a biographical piece detailing Bela Lugosi's "relationship" with Frankenstein's creation.

NOT THE DUDE: JEFF BRIDGES AND THE SEARCH FOR SELF, PART TWO (1985 - PRESENT), which will cover (among other things) the making of the iconic classic THE BIG LEBOWSKI (1998), currently exists in outline form.
