Jonathan Salk

I am a psychiatrist in private practice in West Los Angeles, affiliated with UCLA. My primary interest is in development and the effects of experience on people's lives.

Over 35 years ago, I wrote a book with my father, Jonas Salk, providing a perspective of hope for humanity in this era of change and transition. 5 years ago, at the urging of David Dewane and with the help of Courtney Garvin, we revised, updated and redesigned the book. It is now published and available as A New Reality: Human Evolution for a Sustainable Future.

I divide my time between my clinical work, which I love, my family, whom I also love, and my writing...which I love, as well. I'm currently working on a memoir and series of stories about my work as a psychiatrist and my view of human beings and society - a view that integrates an understanding of the biological/molecular basis of behavior, the effects of experience on individual development, the nature of family and community, the interaction of social, political and economic systems, and the relationship of our species to nature and the planet.

I live in Los Angeles with my wife. Our two grown sons, both musicians, live and work nearby.
