I live in Kota Kinabalu in the beautiful Rainforests of Borneo, and this is where my writing blossomed. But before I explain how and why, please be aware that my writing has nothing to do with racing motorbikes; read on.

I was born in 1946 in Leeds, Yorkshire and went on to become a world-famous motocross rider.

I was affectionately known as Wadie, raced worldwide and won Five British Motocross Championships, the only rider to ever win all three categories, 125 / 250 / 500cc. I was seen on British TV every Saturday afternoon in the ’60s and ’70s and, towards the end of my career, set up and ran the British Motocross Racing School.

That’s the standard blurb about my first life. My second life was playing entrepreneur with several different business ventures from restaurant, nightclub, garage and shops. The driving force wasn’t so much, will this make money, more, how much fun could this be. Five children, two divorces, plus a lucky escape, and years later, I see myself starting life three or is it four, but you need a little infill here.

I was 13 years old when I shot myself. No, not what you’re thinking. This was a boy’s experiment that went terribly wrong. I was also Dyslexic, but that hadn’t been invented yet— well, maybe it had. I spent many of my schooling days standing in the corner wearing a hat with a D on it.

I often wondered what psychological damage that did, but maybe it helped my imagination to run wild.

For no apparent reason I can think of, apart from distracting me from becoming a young terrorist, my father bought me an old motorbike. Ten years later, after a great deal of crashing and trips to the hospital, I won my first British Championship but still couldn’t spell.

With the advent of computers and that god-send, ‘Spell Check,’ I struggled to explain ideas that whizzed around in my head, which eventually culminated years later with ‘Recycled Lives’. However, pressure from my good friend and editor demanded I compile my Autobiography, so Recycled Live 2, gathered dust in my head but to keep me amused while battling through ‘A Wild Ride’. I had light-hearted moments compiling a few short ‘Quirky Tales’.

Fast forward to 2018 were I was surprised to win a short story competition organized by Hammond House Publishing and Grimsby University with ‘Experiences Shared’. A couple of years later, an award for another story, ‘Circles’.

Fast-forward to December 2024.

After finishing a significant re-write of Recycled Live: Revealed, to bring more focus and pace has just been republished, along with the final part of the story. Recycled Lives: Truth & Destiny.

In the melee of activity through 2024, Quirky Tales 7½ and 8½ have undergone a re-gig, re-write and re-branded, with several new stories added.

The Plan for the future: Once through the festive season. Finnish the short story book that’s half completed, then see what pans out.
