Robert Pike

Dr Robert Pike graduated from the University of Exeter in 1998 with a BA in History and French. More recently he gained a PhD from Cardiff University, specialising in the history of modern France.

Following a career in teaching and co-authoring educational resources such Oxford University Press' A level French course, Robert returned to history, his first love. He wrote his first book, Defying Vichy, after interviewing former Resistance members. His second book, Silent Village : the Life and Death of Oradour-sur-Glane, was published to great acclaim by The History Press in 2021. A French language edition 'Oradour s'est tu' followed in 2024, published by Flammarion. This book was described as 'a remarkable social and cultural case-study' by authority in the field Rod Kedward.



Robert lives in Worcestershire with his wife and two children and dabbles in writing fiction in his spare time.
