Pieter de Wilde

Pieter de Wilde is an academic who publishes work in the area of building performance. He is professor at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, United Kingdom. Prof de Wilde combines a strong education in architecture (TU Delft, NL and GeorgiaTech, USA) with 25 years of studies of Building Science and Intelligent Computing. He is an expert in building science, with a focus on thermal aspects. His particular interest is thermal building performance simulation, and its use in the building services and engineering community. He also has an interest in building performance monitoring in their actual day-to-day context which enables critical reflection on the validity of computational results, and their meaning in building operation and facility management practice. Prof. de Wilde is active within the International Building Performance Simulation (IBPSA, see www.ibpsa.org), presently serving as secretary to the board of directors of IBPSA-World He also is the immediate-past chair of EG-ICE, the European Group for Intelligent Computing in Engineering (www.eg-ice.org). He is Fellow of IBPSA, CIBSE, and ASHRAE. He has published well over 250 peer reviewed papers in the field and has personally attracted research funding of over £3.6m from a range of funding sources such as the UK Research Councils, European Union and industry.
