Gail Gray

Gail Gray, M. Ed., is currently serving as a transformational instructional coach in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since obtaining her Master’s Degree in Administrative Leadership and Curriculum & Instruction, she’s also worked as an educator effectiveness coach, literacy coach, primary reading specialist, and acting assistant principal within the public school systems in southeast Wisconsin. Prior to operating in that capacity, Mrs. Gray worked for twenty full-time years as a passionate and highly dedicated classroom teacher in some urban and inner-city classrooms of Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

It was in those classrooms, across three states, where she discovered a variety of techniques for instructing and managing the well over one thousand kindergarten through eighth grade scholars that she taught throughout her classroom career.

During her early years as a teacher, Mrs. Gray focused on general education, including summer enrichment for kindergarten through fifth grades. Her last thirteen years in the classroom were spent developing 21st Century— literate learners and forging lasting connections with her now adult students.

The author began her venture as a teacher leader when she became a district facilitator of the Writing Circles method created by Jim Vopat. She also served as a consultant and literacy presenter for Carroll University of Wisconsin, in conjunction with the Milwaukee Writing Project, Alverno College’s Literacy Initiative, and the Milwaukee Teacher Education Center’s Literacy Symposium. Mrs. Gray continues to support literacy across the curriculum as an instructional coach.
