"If that thing could talk..." It was a phrase I had heard all my life, growing up in rural south central Kentucky. My mother taught me to love old things and stories about the people who owned them, good, bad- and outrageous. From my grandfather (who hated history) I came to love it and, ironically, spent 27 years teaching it. Old stories, characters, their words and folkways filled my mind until I left the classroom and began putting them into writing. Thus, nearly six years later, "Notes on Cracker Barrel Napkins" is in print. I am now retired from teaching and live near Berea, Kentucky with my wife and family.
