Jeff Skousen

Jeff Skousen (1956- ), Ph.D., is a West Virginia University professor soil science and land reclamation specialist. He was born in Yuma, AZ, but grew up on a 100-ac farm near Ontario, OR, raising livestock, hay, potatoes, and wheat. After high school, he served 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ohio.

Jeff attended Brigham Young University where he received BS and MS degrees in Range Science, then Texas A&M University where he received a Ph.D. in Soil Science in 1985. He also received a AA in music technology. He joined the faculty at West Virginia University in 1986 and works in reclaiming disturbed lands, reducing acid mine drainage, and solving other soil and water problems. He has published over 300 articles in the scientific literature and has received several teaching, research, and service awards.

Jeff and his wife, Debbie, have four children and live in Morgantown, WV. He is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has served as bishop, in stake presidencies, mission presidencies, high councilor, scoutmaster, gospel doctrine and gospel essentials teacher, and organist. He spends his spare time working on their 120-ac farm, running, and tuning and rebuilding pianos.
