Lauralee Northcott

Lauralee Northcott is an award winning musician and fiber artist. With the publication of, "A Cowgirl's Life In The Mountains", she is now an author too! For over 20 years she was a wilderness guide and cook in north central Washington State. She has a lot to say about life in the mountains. This book is a tapestry of poems, lyrics, menus, and stories about those experiences.

Lauralee's interest in the horse culture of the last century in American history, and love of all things western is authentic and abiding. In the 1990's she interviewed over 50 people who have spent extensive time in the wilderness, spanning almost 70 years of personal narratives. Some of her work is now used to enhance the exhibits at the Shafter Museum in her home town of Winthrop, WA. With a degree in music from Western Washington University Northcott began her career as a public school teacher. She taught in the public schools for just over 30 years, teaching music and grade school. Teaching in the winter, guiding and cooking in the summer, and playing music on the weekends has pretty much been her working career.

Basket making became a passion for Lauralee in about 2015 or so. Since that time her work is displayed in many galleries and is well loved by her family. She was awarded the "Best in Show" at the 2016 Western Art Association National Art Show. Her baskets are made of Ponderosa Pine needles collected from the hills around her home.
