Jon Mitchell

Jon (Short for Jonathan) Mitchell, born 1971, son to Ann and John Mitchell, in Cambridgeshire.

Successful Porsche specialist garage owner with 30 years Porsche experience, and technical advisor to the official Porsche Club of Great Britain as well as the Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club (TIPEC).

His father John Mitchell Snr, also a garage owner since the early 1970s, with a prior history of working on captured German tanks with air-cooled engines designed by Dr Porsche, had a natural affinity with vehicles of unusual design, so quickly built a reputation of being able to fix anything, including those witchcraft air-cooled Porsche engines in sports cars in his own business.

The first time that Jon became known (at least in his family) as a demon with tools, was when he was just three years old, found a screwdriver and disassembled part of his mother's washing machine, while she was not watching him. Shortly afterwards, he also almost killed his mother when she went to operate the washing machine and was blown across the kitchen by an electrical shock. It can be assumed that Jon's early mechanical attempts were not always welcome in the Mitchell house.

Jon always loved going to work with his father as a child every chance he had, stripping down his first Porsche engine at only 6 years old, so it should have been expected that Jon would have followed in his father's footsteps.

However initially, Jon made a successful business from the age of 14, developing computer games, until eventually giving in and running his own Porsche specialist garage, JMG Porsche, from the very late 1980s, which is still running today.

Benefitting from training in the factory as well as the motorsport division, Jon also worked on some very exotic Porsche models very early in his career, including the 930 Turbo, 959 and 944 Turbo cup cars.

One of Jon's unusual skills (for a Porsche specialist) was understanding the computers used in Porsche models from the early 1980s (through to the current day), as his computer game programming skills allowed him to disassemble the software in Porsche engine management computers and understand how they worked, far beyond the insight or information even available to main dealers.

To this day, as well as advising Porsche enthusiasts, Jon also is often called upon to provide technical advice to other Porsche specialists and main dealers, when all other avenues of diagnosis have been exhausted. To this day, no Porsche issue has ever remained a mystery once Jon has become involved.

As well as running his successful Porsche specialist business, designing improved Porsche parts, and advising people on all things Porsche, Jon also writes articles for Porsche publications and Porsche books.

Jon would be the last person to describe himself as an author but is routinely asked to contribute articles to the press and media, as well as having several books in progress.
