Bob Smeaton

Bob Smeaton is a double Grammy award winning director of music and arts documentaries, born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, in the North East of England. Throughout his career, he’s worked with some of the biggest artists in the world, including the Beatles, Elton John, the Who, Pink Floyd, the Doors, Queen, Nirvana, Mark Knopfler, the Rolling Stones and the Spice Girls!

Prior to becoming a documentary maker, Bob was lead vocalist with the rock band White Heat. Signed to Virgin records, the band toured extensively and released one album and two singles. Bob has also been a welder, television presenter, actor of stage and screen and a puppeteer.

During the summer of 2014 he began writing his memoir- From Benwell Boy to 46th Beatle and beyond.

From the banks of the River Tyne where he ‘served his time’ in the shipyards, and onwards to an epiphany at the top of a mountain in Brazil. Bob’s story has it’s share of ups and downs and he tells it with with down-to-earth honesty and humour, infused with a healthy dose of ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me’.
