My novels are inspired by what I see and hear around me every day of my life, with a large dose of my tendency to exaggerate added in for good measure. Whenever I write I can hear The Beatles, Joy Division, The Sex Pistols, New Order, A Tribe Called Quest, Interpol and many more playing in the background.
Danny Boyle and the Coen brothers sit on my left shoulder approving each word as I go. Whereas on my right shoulder sits my Mum, with a look of disapproval on her face. But she loves it really.
My life as had many ups and downs, relatively speaking. It’s not like I haven’t got access to clean water, or live in a war zone. However, my constant exposure to the western world, and from the viewpoint of a small town in the middle of England, has left me with a sense of entitlement that I am clearly not entitled to.
I only want people to enjoy and laugh at/with my stories, but if someone takes more than that from my writing… Splendid.
