Marti Buckley

Marti Buckley is an American writer and chef from Alabama who has lived in Spain since 2010. She is the author of the award-winning Basque Country (Artisan, 2018), published in Spanish as La Cocina Vasca (Planeta, 2021) and in German; and The Book of Pintxos (Artisan, 2024). She also co-authored the Wallpaper City Guide to Bilbao and San Sebastián.

Based in San Sebastián, Buckley writes about Spanish food, culture, and place for leading American and international publications, including Food & Wine and Condé Nast Traveler. She is the co-founder of the International Society for the Preservation and Enjoyment of Vermut and a leading voice on contemporary vermouth culture in Spain, where she is widely known for her vermutekes. Through her work (books, media, and her long-running blog) she explores Spain beyond the obvious, with a focus on culture, tradition, and regional identity.
