Arthur C. Cosmas

Dr. Cosmas received his degrees from Boston University and the University of Massachusetts. He was awarded a scholarship and received a teaching fellowship at Boston University and a teaching/research fellowship at the University of Massachusetts. He served in the medical unit of the New Hampshire Air National Guard. He has been an instructor at Boston University and is currently an associate professor emeritus at the University of Connecticut, an adjunct professor at the University of Rhode Island, and a senior staff therapist at select medical sports medicine and outpatient rehabilitation clinics.

His research interests include the effects of subclinical hypothyroidism on heart and skeletal muscle, structural changes within the aging heart, physical activity as an age retardant, skeletal muscle metabolic and structural alterations as indicators of cardiovascular disease, and morphological alterations in the left ventricle during chronic sustained hypertension progressing to early heart failure. He has published numerous scientific articles and has addressed national and international audiences.

He played baseball at Boston University, has played semi professional baseball, has run many marathons, and has competed in several triathlons. He continues to practice physical therapy and sports medicine. He continues to run, bike, and swim and is a passionate proponent of physical activity as an age retardant. However, most important, he loves being a papou!
