Steve Langley was born in London and has spent most of his working life as a journalist, working on local, regional and national newspapers, on news websites and on a wide range of magazines in London, Kent, Oxford and Hong Kong. Until November 2018, those years spent writing, filing and polishing copy were the closest he ever got to realising his boyhood dream of being a writer after ignoring his career master's advice to be an estate agent instead. Langley's first novel, Borrowed Time, set in Hong Kong in the tense runup to the handover to Chinese rule in 1997, has just been published.
