JAMES E H FITZGERALD first came up with the idea for the story in his first book "Road to War" a few months before his eleventh birthday. Placing himself and his two younger brothers (George and Henry) back as if they were born exactly 100 years earlier, living in a middle-class Belgian family at the outbreak of the Great War.
The timing for the publication is a mark of respect and remembrance, the centenary of the armistice on 11th November 1918 and to recognize the impact to civilians in all conflicts of war – past, present and future.
James (born July 2007) and his younger brothers, George (born October 2009) and Henry (born August 2016) are all keen golfers, albeit Henry is frustrated at not being allowed to play alongside his older brothers in tournaments. They have already won seven trophies between them in 2018 for golf, and James with a handicap of 15 aspires to compete professionally when he’s older.
Among other interests, James enjoys sailing, fishing, swimming and music.
The original target of 7,500 to 10,000 words for his first short story seemed almost impossible at the start, those targets have been far exceeded. James, like all writers had frustrating moments when faced with writer’s block. However, both his vocabulary as well as his resolve to complete the book have grown immensely along with the story line.
James already has a sequel planned and he would encourage everyone young, and not so young, to follow through on their dreams and ideas (written or otherwise).
“You can do it!”
