Thom Bond

Thom Bond is a thought leader, author, activist, and founder of The New York Center for Nonviolent Communication (NYCNVC). Over the past seven years, he has catalyzed a worldwide movement, with his innovative global approach to peacemaking and mediation. His teachings are spreading throughout the world, bringing new hope to people in search of a practical path to a more peaceful and sustainable existence, on both a personal and social level.

Thom is the author of The Compassion Book: Lessons From The Compassion Course, "Shifting Toward Compassion" (theexercise.org), and "64 Days for Peace" an online, self-led curriculum. He is best known as the creator and leader of The Compassion Course, a comprehensive online training in compassionate thought and action. Over 19,000 people have participated in the course and it continues to grow in numbers and global reach, with a current roster of over 6,000 participants from over 110 countries.

Thom's professional life began in the areas of science and engineering, creating partnerships between established manufacturing companies and emerging energy and information technology companies, specializing in alternative energy, energy efficiency, and "smart-building" technology. After meeting Rosenberg in 2002, Thom closed his energy services firm to study and teach with Marshall.

His most recent work is based on his experience with Marshall Rosenberg and Albert Ellis, and is influenced by his training with Werner Erhard (Landmark Education). In his book and his course, Thom successfully distinguishes, articulates and teaches a consciousness that engenders compassionate thought and action. This "mindful" approach expands on Rosenberg's original teaching method that used a "speech model" as a teaching method. Thom's work has proven to provide a profoundly practical and sustainable path to a more compassionate life.

His books, course and workshops have been embraced globally, crossing cultural boundaries without exception. Thom's courses are currently available in Arabic, English, German, and Spanish. There are current translation projects for Thom's work in Finnish, German, Hebrew, Dutch, Italian, and Portuguese , with expansion into Hindi, Chinese, and Japanese scheduled for 2020.
