Michael L Jordan

Michael Jordan is a former local television news anchor, free-lance war correspondent, award-winning filmmaker, and historian who has visited more than fifty countries. Michael produced more than thirty documentaries on the history of Savannah, Georgia (USA), before shifting his focus to writing books.

Michael's 2015 coffee table book, "Savannah Square by Square," published by Historic Savannah Foundation, featured detailed information on each of the city's 22 existing historic squares alongside beautiful full-color photographs. This popular publication reached its fourth printing and sold more than 5,000 copies locally in less than three years.

Michael followed up in 2017 with "Hidden History of Civil War Savannah," a deep dive into fascinating but little-known stories about a town known as a Civil War tourism destination.

Recently Michael co-authored a guide book for the circa-1820 Isaiah Davenport House Museum in Savannah, and is now working on a similar publication for the circa-1796 Blount Mansion in downtown Knoxville, TN, where he works part-time as Director of Marketing and Public Relations (Michael followed his academic wife from Savannah to Knoxville in 2014).

In between his day job and book projects, Michael continues to produce films for clients, including museum orientation videos and educational films about archaeological digs. In 2017, Michael completed the official US Army Corps of Engineers documentary about the raising of the wreck of the Civil War Confederate ironclad warship, CSS Georgia, from the Savannah River. This vessel was also the subject of Michael's masters thesis in history in 2006. Most recently, Michael produced two short films for use in a new exhibit at the Owens-Thomas House Museum and Slave Quarters in downtown Savannah.
