Janet Hardacre

State Registered Nurse, Registered Mental Nurse, Community Psychiatric Nurse (retired).

Over 40 years of nursing experience and challenged by patients, staff and carers to write about her experiences gained during her highly rewarding profession. Writes short stories usually but published in 2017 a book on caring for people with dementia. During her psychiatric nursing, she witnessed first hand the psychological and physical effects that caring for a person with dementia placed on the carers. Sadly not a lot has changed and although dementia itself and caring for a person with dementia has improved and is more spoken about than ever before, there are some aspects that are still rarely mentioned especally when it comes to personal care and the end stage of the condition. The author acknowledges the sadness and the confusion that a diagnosis of dementia can bring to a family but has admitted that she has had more fun and laughter with carers when they feel confident, secure and able to discuss their caring input with someone who knows exactly what they are talking about.

This book shares a 'warts and all' insight into dementia care and has been positively welcomed and approved by carers.
