Vera Noskova

Věra Nosková was born on 9 April, 1947 in the town of Hroznětín in the district of Karlovy Vary in Western Bohemia in Europe.

She grew up in the industrial district town of Strakonice. After graduating from a grammar school, she worked in many professions in several cities. She was, for example, an arranger, a gate keeper, a labourer, a postman, an archivist at the Monument, a designer in a construction company, an enlightened border agent, a maid, a waitress, a tutor and a nursery teacher - for this profession, she graduated from evening college. Since 1990, she has been a journalist, a profession that she could do only after the 1989 Velvet Revolution of Prague. Later, she worked as an editor and reporter in several printed media and prepared and moderated discussion programs for the Czech radio station Český rozhlas, often devoted to the popularization of science. She is currently writing columns, glossaries, and reports, especially about her journeys throughout Southeast Asia. Since 1972, she has been living in Prague.

In 1995, she established the Czech Society of Sceptics Sisyfos, together with astrophysicist Jiří Grygar and several other scientists and journalists, a civic association that is part of a global organization promoting critical thinking. Today, the association has around four hundred members in Bohemia. Věra acted as the club's president between 2001 and 2004 and was the editor for Zpravodaj Sisyfos newsletter for 10 years. She is a member of the international prestigious association of writers, the Czech branch of the PEN Club. Since 2002, she has been focusing on prose; to this day she has written and published 21 books.

Věra watches with concern as the traditional male roles and their rights are questioned, as well as the attacks and the growing influence of militant feminists. Her book 'Let's Protect Men' and its sequel ‘The Stories of Men’ deal with the topic. The books were received with great public interest. In their spirit, the author spoke on several radio and television shows. In recent years, she has taken up travelling, exploring Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Tanzania, and writes travel journals together with her sons - traveling companions - about her experiences and thoughts. Věra has also observed the roles of men and women in family and society in those countries.

The author has two sons - Jiří Nosek and Tomáš Nosek, who devote themselves to book graphics and their publishing house Klika. She has been married for more than 40 years to the scientist Jindřich Nosek.

Interests: Film art, wandering though nature or exploring ancient European cities, photography and travelling through far-away regions. But her passion is writing books. The author is currently disturbed by the uncertain prospects for the future of Euro-Atlantic culture and democracy.
