Che' Jackson

Hi! My name is Che’ Jackson and I am the CEO of HYPE Math (Helping Young People Excel in Math). I have been married to an amazing, gorgeous man for over 15+ years and I am a mother of four (two boys and two girls). I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and just in case you were wondering, YES!! I am a Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks fan!!

The Backstory

When you first meet me, you would never guess that I am a math nerd. That is just how cool I am!! Lol!!! So, I knew I had a love for math and understood how to work out logic problems when I was in 6th grade. It was in 6th grade I met Ms. Buffington, a wonderful, but stern math teacher who made solving math problems easy and fun. I just needed to commit to solving the problem. As crazy as it sounds, math was and is like a security blanket to me, kind of like the one Linus has on Peanuts. As time went on, the rumor that Che’ was pretty good at math and could help other kids was spread by my mom. Due to her confidence in me and my skills, I started tutoring younger kids in math when I was a seventh grader. It was around my 10th grade year that the passion of dispelling the “Math Fear” began to grow. When I would hear someone say that they hate math or frown up their face, I thought to myself that it was probably a teacher they had that may have stoked the math flame. I know I can’t influence everyone to feel about math the way I do, but at least I can try to build their confidence, so that more doors of opportunity can be opened to them.

Experience

Once I started tutoring students in 7th grade, my quest to change peoples’ views and fears about math has never stopped. I have over 8 years experience teaching math from elementary up to Algebra I. I was also a college professor at Lonestar College in Houston, TX for 6 years. Although I took a hiatus from teaching math, except to my kids, the passion to quench the math fear has not fizzled. After meditation on how to best reach the largest amount of students, HYPE Math was born!
