Samantha Pious translates women poets, especially sapphic poets, to contribute to a canon—or canons—of our own. Her translations include:
- Judith Teixeira, Cactus Flowers (Headmistress Press, 2025), winner of Golden Crown Literary Award and finalist for a Lambda Literary Award
- Natalie Clifford Barney, Selected Poems (2025), the first book of Barney's verse to appear in English
- Renée Vivien, A Crown of Violets (2015, revised 2017), named by Meg Day as a finalist for the Charlotte Mew Prize
- Christine de Pizan, A Lover and His Lady: One Hundred Ballades, coming soon through Iter Press
A volume of her original poems, Sappho Is Dead, appeared in 2024. She holds a PhD in comparative literature from the University of Pennsylvania.
