Francis began his life in Rome as a geology student, then a teacher, then had to pursue his taste for adventure and began his travels and work across New Zealand, Australia and the rest of the world. These books chronicle this life of his, written from a third person's point of view. Yet Francis' voice is clearly defined, and cannot be mistaken. Many themes are touched upon as he recounts his life, but mostly, this is indeed a recounting of his life. This is just the life and adventures of a man who has lived a very, very interesting life, becoming an almost larger than life figure, something that, if you don't know him personally, you might think is a product of fiction.

Whatever you think of Francis' life in the end, whatever final judgement you might give, there is no denying his life is far more interesting than most fictional characters.

An Improbable Life: Book I

This book, like the ones that follow, begins with a Prologue, whereby Francis tells of an important event that occurred to him in Jerusalem, and then proceeds to recount a dream that meant a lot to him. After this, he tells of his life as a child explorer, who grew up during the war around Rome, up to his high school years and then, right after meeting his first wife, and his first travels with her in and around Italy, he begins his adventure outside of Italy.

An Improbable Life: Book II

Here, he tells of his life as a geologist/explorer in Australia and New Zealand, until he leaves for South America.

An Improbable Life: Book III

Here he tells of his life as a in South America and then Saudi Arabia, and big changes in his family life.
