Inez a Lasso

The author, Inez A. Lasso, was born in 1937, the youngest of four children. in the South Bronx of New York City. Her mother, a Singing Contest Winner, filled the home with song, turning the poverty of the Bronx into a happy home and singing and songwriting into a lifelong passion for her.

After High School graduation, she got a job as a stenographer at Chase Manhattan Bank in Times Square NYC. She then had the opportunity to join a religious organization the YCW (Young Christian Workers) as a lay missionary, and went to Bogota Colombia. She tells of the work she did with groups of young people and of their enthusiasm about the movement and their hope for a better life. She met her future husband in Colombia and he returned to the U.S. with her where they were married in New York and had two daughters. In order to raise them in a better environment, they moved to Albuquerque, N,M.

In Albuquerque, their third daughter was born. Although she always worked as a legal secretary while her daughters were growing up, Inez wanted to make a difference in the world. She wanted to be a lawyer and fight for women who felt powerless and make them aware of their rights to be treated equally to men, in all aspects of life. In order to fulfill this dream, Inez was determined to go to college (with a 5yrs. old daughter), and received her Bachelor's Degree (1981), her Masters, in Equal Opportunity Law (1983), and Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law (1984). She tells of her life as a married woman, a student and her life as a lawyer.

Upon graduation from UNM Law School, Inez was offered a job as attorney with the U.S. Dept. of Labor in Washington D.C. She left Albuquerque and traveled cross-country with her daughter and started her new life.
