Born in the state of Odisha, Nirmalendu Mohapatra spent his childhood in the steel city of Rourkela in the same state. As a child and later on in work life, he was enchanted by a set of classics which he read and reread many times all through his lifetime. After his education in Cuttack, Delhi and Kolkata, he spent his work-life in three more steel cities of Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, Bokaro in Jharkhand and Burnpur in West Bengal.
From his childhood, he was also charmed by what a steel city had to offer to its inhabitants. This book is about images of steel cities and the nature of man which evolved in him both because of his job as well as the books he read. He worked as a public sector executive holding people management responsibility in the largest steel making organization in the country - Steel Authority of India Ltd.
