Andi Dawson

Andi Dawson is the writer and illustrator behind Flower Guard Books, through which she has self-published numerous children’s books. She has also written many commissioned stories and published two poetry collections for adults. Over the years, Andi has worked as a librarian, toy and bookshop assistant, BBC resources manager, and is now a Higher Level Teaching Assistant in a primary school. She lives in a rural East Yorkshire village with her partner, their three children, a lively cockapoo and a terrapin.

Her love of storytelling began in childhood, encouraged by her teachers. After earning a degree in English and Communication Arts from Huddersfield University, she moved to Belfast, where storytelling fell by the wayside. Following ten years with the BBC, motherhood and a move to the Yorkshire coast inspired her to create personalised stories for her own children and those of others, and after failing to secure a mainstream publisher she turned to self-publishing.

Writing comes naturally to Andi, while illustrating—though challenging—is a process she holds dear. Over the years she has brought her stories to life through school visits, workshops, and performances across East Yorkshire, aiming to spark imagination and a love of reading in children and adults alike.
