"Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
-1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
1999: On the entire Internet, when the words: "Born Again Protestant Monks" were entered, only one website came up; S.G Preston's website: The Prayer Foundation.
Note: The Books in this Series have Volume Numbers, but they have been written so that they can be read in any order.
In January of 1999, after a visit to Ireland and Assisi in Italy, home of St. Francis, S.G. Preston and his wife Linda had founded The Prayer Foundation Knights of Prayer Monks (TM): the very first Evangelical Monastic Order on the Internet. It would continue to be the only one for the next four years.
It is an International, Interdenominational, Lay Monastic Order; for Men, Women, Singles and Married Couples; who remain in their own jobs, careers, and church affiliations; who desire to grow in their prayer lives through the practice of historic Monastic and Early Church teachings.
Over 2,000 Christians in all 50 US States and 47 Countries have joined their global prayer ministry's Knights of Prayer Monks (TM). One out of every seven of these, since the very beginning, have been either Pastors, Youth Pastors, Missionaries, or Seminary and Bible College students.
Other Christians who have visited the website over the past two decades, now numbering in the millions, have learned and benefitted from it's teachings, using its extensive resources on prayer for the same purpose as those in ministry: to grow closer to Christ through development of a richer and deeper personal prayer life.
1999-2014: S.G. Preston built The Prayer Foundation website (www.prayerfoundation.org), until it grew to 1,300 webpages; equivalent to nearly 4,000 printed book pages; of Prayer Teaching & Resources from All Christian Communions and Eras. It soon went viral, with over half a billion total page-views worldwide as of 2020; currently receiving 1.6 million page-views every month.
2008: In February of 2008, The Boston Globe newspaper recognized Preston and Linda as being some of the five or six earliest Founders of the New Monasticism movement. The articles were researched and written by the respected Historian Molly Worthen, whose articles have often appeared in Christianity Today magazine, as well as in many other publications.
The complete articles: "The Unexpected Monks" and "In the Beginning," have been posted on The Prayer Foundation website, and on that of the Boston Globe.
2014: Microsoft ended support to Hosting Services for its FrontPage Web-building program, and The Prayer Foundation website has been unable to be updated since that time.
2019: S.G. Preston has built a New Website:" PrayerFoundation Monks (TM), for posting Current Updates (www.prayerfoundation.net) and updating over 100 of the webpages of his original "Classic" website, The Prayer Foundation in a new magazine-style format.
The specific purpose of all of the books in the Series, including those proposed for future publication, is that they serve as practical handbooks for those desiring to grow in Christ through prayer.
Over the past twenty years, The Prayer Foundation has received prayer requests from 88 countries around the world. These were sent to be placed on The Prayer Foundation's 24-Hr. Prayerchain, which was begun in 1999. God's loving and amazing answering of these heartfelt prayer requests, comprises the immensely inspiring text of: PrayerFoundation Monks (TM) Vol. 3: Answers to Prayer.
The Monastic Rule (guiding principles) of the Knights of Prayer Monastic Order, what S.G. Preston calls "The Celtic Cross Rule," is based on three Scriptures:
“Draw near to God,
and He will draw near to you.”
-James 4:8
But we will devote ourselves
continually to prayer,
and to the ministry of the word.”
-Acts 6:4
"Evening, and morning, and at noon: I will pray and call out loud, and He shall hear my voice."
-Psalm 55:17
