Jamal Martin

Writing is a casual habit for me and my poetry has been a conduit to a deep seated imagination filled with nostalgia and romantic adventures, sometimes, inspired and conscious thoughts of the reflecting world around me. I have found that growth can be realised in any direction but with the right effort and guided in the proper direction, a beautiful image emerges for all to see.

I live in the Caribbean, on the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago located a few miles away from Venezuela. I wrote my first book as a collection of poems, shorts stories and contemplative thoughts. The title 'Rebellum' latin for 'Rebel' describes 'The journey of a Rebel to a Poet'. It shows a continuously developing line of poetry extracted from my experiences and daydreams of a beautiful world. Though in some ways far removed from the rewards of my present growth, I believe it offers a clear-sighted view of how we can engage ourselves in the journey of self-discovery and the modest rewards we attain the more we attempt to develop the potential of our most promising abilities.

I began life with a feeling of nostalgia for the world of a romantic and philosopher and it led me to the door of one far more incredible- my own destiny.
