Doreen M Atkinson

Doreen M. Atkinson is a self-taught writer, painter and natural story-teller. Her passion is entertaining children with the written word. Doreen grew up reading with her mother where her love of books originated. One of her favorite pastimes was a trip to the library with her mom. Now, many years later, Doreen is still an avid reader.

Painting, writing and illustrating her books started as a hobby when she retired from her work at the Ontario Government. Sharing her stories with young children is her current goal. Her books are entertaining and challenging.

The Katie Kool series start with a mystery to solve, lots of clues are provided and ultimately the answers. Readers can join in the fun and try to solve the mystery before the answer is given.

The Merriest, the Beariest Bears series is centred around the daily experiences of a friendly family of bears living deep in the forest. They have lots of fun and friends. These books have an activity section where readers can enjoy drawing and colouring pictures and are invited to write captions to complement the pictures.

Doreen lives in beautiful Oro-Medonte, in Ontario, Canada. She shares her home with her friend, Marilyn Martin, who illustrates the Merriest, the Beariest Bears.
