Rob Coughlin was born, and raised in N.W London by Anglo Scottish parents. After leaving school he worked variously as a despatch rider, Betting shop manager,Tax collector ,H.G.V. driver, and as a labourer for a tree surgeon, and a stonemason.
After returning from The Gambia in 2006, and following six years of homelessness,in London and Nottingham he moved to Somerset, and now lives in Weston Super -Mare. The autobiographical account of his life in The Gambia, published as "Toubab," is his first book, and the first episode of an intended trilogy of his life ,from The Gambia,to homelessness, and prison, and ultimately to redemption, and recovery in North Somerset.
