John Steward was born, educated in Australia, where he has lived all but 16 years of his life. His 12 years in Indonesia included three as a young lad when he learned the wisdom of rural community life without mod-cons. The other nine were adult service in theological education and community development.
The other four years overseas have been accumulated since 1997 when he lived in Rwanda for 16 months after which he traveled in and out of the country 21 times. What kept him returning was the amazing turn-around in people's lives as they grieved loss and disappointment to find that forgiveness overcomes the deepest pains and makes possible a re-connection with neighbors with whom they were in conflict.
This challenging work is described in John's book "From Genocide to Generosity" and the principles that brought about the amazing change in some Rwandans are the focus of the free online study guide TO LIVE WELL & TO DO WELL.
John is proud to have found a way for the lessons from Rwanda to give light to the path of other humans seeking peace.
