Mukesh Gupta

Dr. Mukesh Gupta is a senior science professional in the private sector in Quebec, Canada. He is the founder and executive member of the Indian Society of Arctic Researchers (ISAR), bringing extensive expertise in geophysics and Arctic research. He holds an M.Tech. in Applied Geophysics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and a Ph.D. in Geophysics focusing on Arctic Sea Ice from the University of Manitoba.

As a former Scientist/Engineer at the Space Applications Centre (ISRO) in Ahmedabad, he made significant contributions to coastal processes remote sensing, and synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR). Dr. Gupta tested the sea ice thickness data assimilation in an ice prediction system at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). His postdoctoral research, conducted at the Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC) in Barcelona and UCLouvain in Belgium, focused on developing Arctic satellite data products and advanced Arctic climate modeling under the European Union's Horizon 2020 project.

With over two decades of earth observation experience, Dr. Gupta serves as Review Editor for more than 30 journals and has peer-reviewed over 145 international publications. His expertise has earned him recognition as a government expert reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Reports. His current research encompasses microwave remote sensing of sea ice, Arctic physical process modeling, coastal oceanography, and ocean color studies.

A Life Member of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS), Dr. Gupta has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, scientific reports, and book chapters. His latest book is 'Remote Sensing for Geophysicists'. His field experience includes eight months of extensive Arctic research conducted aboard vessels in the Canadian High Arctic, Greenland, the Bay of Bengal, and the Arabian Sea.
