ABOUT ME

Welcome to NYOTA books! What does that funny word mean? That word is "Star" in Swahili, the ancient language born in Africa.

My name is Leah Hege (heg- ghee) Scott. My Company is Lee Starr Unlimited Enterprises. I started it because I know there are thousands of chances through literature, to reach the developing young minds of our children. And I wanted a platform from which to contribute. Being a writer, I wanted to present the quality of message and content that I would choose for my own child. Something that would bring forth some of the light that already burns within them. SO, NYOTA Books! Since Nyota means STAR in and my name is Starr...well you get it.

The idea is to pass the light on, to teach, and inspire. That spark inside each child is why I write for them. They inspire me, to let my own light burn brightly. I just want them to SHINE! We can’t always know exactly when they’re ready to receive. But by giving ideas to them in print, they can get to lessons that sink in when they’re able to absorb it. Favorite books encourage them to read, and read again, building brains. A lot of good things are now (also) digital but there isn’t anything like holding a book, turning pages, looking at the pictures...

I saw the way my son and his friends reacted my work and decided It was my responsibility to share it.

I am a mother, wife, and daughter. I also have Systemic Lupus. I have written since I can remember. Usually my work reflects what touches me from our surroundings, or what can be said from the heart. Poetry is my favorite, Dr. Suess was my hero and I revel in rhyme. Writing helps to keep me sane when I’m not doing well. It helps keep my mind active with word- play, plot building, and character development.

But the best thing is, every time I look at the night sky, I think about the children who are shining, lit from within.
