George Yenney

Mr. Yenney, a Navy brat, was born in Virginia and raised in California. In San Diego and Oxnard he first heard Spanish, and began learning it from his school pals in Camarillo.

He attended military boarding school in Wisconsin before serving two tours with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam.

Post service, he earned degrees from UCSB and CSUDH.

Mr. Yenney has worked as a farm laborer, dishwasher, cook, a security guard and in construction. He managed an apartment complex and was a telephone operator in the barrios of Oxnard.

He spent considerable time on the northwest rim of Mesoamerica in the coastal state of Nayarit. There, he lived in an earthen floored, thatched roofed palapa and slept in a hammock under a mosquito net. He worked in the milpas, fished and surfed the left point break at the mouth of the river that passed the village.

Mr. Yenney served the State of Oregon as a Migrant and Seasonal Farmer Worker Outreach Representative and English-Spanish interpreter for three years.

For more than a decade he taught English and conducted international business in the Republic of China on Taiwan. He was a bilingual educator in Oxnard, California for twenty years.

Mr. Yenney likes to speak Spanish and Mandarin, swim, kneeboard and practice Tai Chi.

He currently lives in Ventura, Ca, working on his next novel.
