Sergeant First Class Dixie L. Thompson, US Army Retired, is better known as Sgt Dixie and advocates for women veterans in their transition back to civilian life and helps them to achieve a healthy, successful lifestyle. She works with women one-on-one and writes to reach a wider audience and guide them to the resources they need. Sgt Dixie has gone through this transition twice, taking time out of her military service for family difficulties and again when she retired. She has completed many college credits in various disciplines and received several awards for her work with small businesses and veterans including being featured in “Distinguished Women in Nevada”, named Nevada Veteran of the Month in January 2020.
Her work as a board member of nonprofits supporting veterans, her active involvement with the Women Veterans of Nevada, and co-host of a radio show for veterans which is heard world-wide have all contributed to helping veterans achieve a better life. She has contributed to several Community Book Project books, the Behind the Rank series, and written a how-to resource guide for women leaving the military. She speaks to veteran and community groups to educate them about the challenges that women veterans face. Sgt Dixie lives in Paradise, Nevada, an area that includes the famous Las Vegas Strip and better known as Sin City or Lost Wages. She has 2 sons, 2 granddaughters, and 3 granddogs. Her older son works in hotel/casinos in Las Vegas and her younger son is a Drill Sergeant at Fort Benning. She loves to read mysteries, knit knockers for breast cancer survivors, playing with and reading to her granddaughters, dark chocolate, and traveling by air, land, and sea.
