I am known by some as the "Duke of Drones". Following a 27 year career in the U.S. Navy I joined the faculty of the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. I developed a course entitled "Unmanned Systems and Conflict in the 21st Century" which I have been teaching twice a year since 2009. I have traveled widely and participated in numerous conferences and workshops on the subjects of robotics and unmanned systems. My book "One Nation, Under Drones" brings together much of what I have learned through this in-depth journey of discovery. In March 2010 I testified before the Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, U.S. House of Representatives. The hearing was entitled "Rise of the Drones: Unmanned Systems and the Future of War". I am a frequent public speaker on this subject having given more than two-dozen lectures to educational institutions and civic groups. I recently discussed my book with the Prime Minister of Italy while participating in an Artificial Intelligence Conference in Rome.
