Author Biography — Yusef Harris
Yusef Harris is an author, community advocate, educator, and creative whose life’s work sits at the intersection of social awareness, mentorship, and artistic expression. A devoted husband and father, he believes that strong families and thriving communities are built through intentional investment, shared responsibility, and compassionate leadership.
For more than 35 years, Yusef has been active in community empowerment, social advocacy, and creative outreach. His writing continues that mission. He is the author of OMG! My GOD, My GOD and #LemonadeLife: The Book, works that challenge readers to reflect deeply on personal growth, social responsibility, and healthcare advocacy — especially within communities that have historically faced systemic inequities. Drawing from lived experience, Yusef’s voice is both thought-provoking and solution-oriented, encouraging dialogue that leads to awareness, healing, and action.
Yusef’s commitment to education extends beyond the written word. He has served as a subject matter expert and guest speaker at Kansas City Kansas Community College, where he addressed nursing students during the transplant segment of their medical training. His professional background also includes eight years as a Corporate Trainer with Sprint and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, where he specialized in adult learning and leadership development. Notably, he designed and implemented a comprehensive employee training program supporting an international offshoring initiative in Mangalore, India. He is a certified Scrum Master and an accomplished Toastmasters speaker, bringing clarity, engagement, and inspiration to every audience he addresses.
In the creative arts, Yusef has deep roots in Hip Hop culture and spoken word performance. His music production credits include “7 Steps Behind” by PolyRhythm Addicts and “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” by Truth Enola. Over the years, he has collaborated with respected artists including Basement Khemists, Heet Mob, Krizz Kalico, La’Shae Jones, and Marqueal Jordan, with future projects involving acclaimed lyricist Apani B Fly MC. His production partnerships include DJ Joc Max, Sean “Icy Roc” Raspberry, Don Juan, S.G., and internationally known DJ Spinna.
As a spoken word artist, Yusef has performed at the University of Kansas and City University of New York (CUNY), where he appeared as an opening performer for legendary poets Sonia Sanchez and Amiri Baraka. His artistic foundation traces back to his studies in Illustration at the University of Kansas, where he was deeply involved in social empowerment and civil rights efforts.
Today, Yusef continues his advocacy as the moderator of the global Facebook community “Black History hosted by Yusef Harris,” fostering dialogue on historical and contemporary issues affecting the African American community worldwide.
Through literature, music, education, and activism, Yusef Harris remains dedicated to informing minds, strengthening communities, and inspiring the next generation to turn lived experience into purposeful change.
