Ken Ross

Kenneth W. Ross was born in New Brunswick, Canada to American parents but was raised in Red Beach, Maine and graduated from Calais High School. After serving in the US Air Force, Ken earned his B.A. in International Relations from the University of Colorado, chosen to be near the Rocky Mountains. He served as an Intelligence Analyst for the US Department of Justice to help with graduate school expenses and earned his Ph.D. in International Relations from American University. Professor Ross taught political science at Adrian College until retirement when he returned home to rural Maine.

First visiting Alaska in 1959, Ken lived there a total of three years including two winters in the Arctic bush which contributed to his becoming an environmentalist. He played a key role in several environmental causes in Michigan and Maine. Ken authored three books about Alaska and the environment, including his autobiography; a political novel; and two local Maine and New Brunswick histories.
