Donald Curtis was raised as an only child on the poor side of Dallas, Texas. His parents gave him total freedom to come and go as he pleased, and he took full advantage of it. It was no surprise when, at seventeen years of age, he quit school in the 10th grade to join the Army.

During his first three-year enlistment, he served in the Dominican Republic during the Dominican Crisis, as well as two combat tours in Vietnam. He was promoted from Private to Sergeant in the Airborne Infantry. After his honorable discharge, he re-enlisted and returned to Vietnam for a second year as a helicopter pilot. Donald stayed on active duty for more than twenty years and served all over the United States and Korea before retiring.

Donald’s second career was spent working as a Dallas Police Officer patrolling the same mean streets that he grew up in. Answering 911 calls and chasing and arresting drug dealers provided him with the adrenal high he’d become addicted to in his military career.

God and lady luck smiled and now Donald is retired and quietly living with his wife of twenty-seven years. He is active in his Masonic Lodge and Old Car club.
