Human motivation and engagement are at the heart of my working life as a performance management specialist and entrepreneur, as well as my ‘second life’ as a theatre maker, playwright and director. Whether managing a contact centre or directing a production of Hamlet, the questions are remarkably similar. How do we connect? How do we influence each other? How do we use the power we have to make an impact? A manager’s power is limited by organisations structures and rules, but is almost limitless in its potential to impact positively or otherwise, the lives of the team they manage.

‘The Performance Management Playbook’, published in the Covid-strange summer of 2021 gives managers practical tools and techniques as never before to ensure their teams are happier, less-stressed and more productive. The book draws on my experiences working with thousands of managers across the globe in organisations large and small public and private. It is designed to create a rich visual experience for readers, encouraging hand written notes and additions to the text – a book to be made unique to each reader, reflecting the best of their management style.

My first book, ‘5 Principles of Brilliantly Effective Performance Management’ is designed to be a short, thought-provoking read, to get people thinking differently about how we manage performance.
