Azmi Abusam is a novelist, educator, and software engineer from Khartoum, Sudan, and raised in Columbia, South Carolina.
Abusam is the creator of Wordboo, Big Poppa, and Loquacious, three apps available on the App Store, and the novellas The Night I Lost My Father's Gun and Purple Sunset Blue Nile River.
After earning a BA in International Studies and Arabic from Emory University, he began his career as an intern at NPR's Tell Me More with Michel Martin. Following this, he joined Teach for America and completed a Master’s in Education at George Mason University.
During his decade-long tenure in Washington, D.C., Abusam co-founded a computer science program high school, and taught mathematics and computer science and programming courses. A quintessential Southerner at heart, Abusam is known for his mastery of the vernacular "y’all," his love for winding backroad drives, and his passion for basketball. Despite his many talents, he playfully considers himself a thwarted musician and an irrepressible daydreamer, balancing his endeavors with a boundless optimism and a fervor for exploration. When not immersed in writing or coding, Abusam enjoys hiking, fishing, hunting, cooking, and playing basketball, tennis, and football. He cherishes time with his wife, family, and friends, finding inspiration in the connections and stories that shape his world.
