Kevin Wallick grew up in west central Illinois, not far from where his father and mother were born, raised, and then courted. After attending the University of Illinois his specialized research in controlled environment plant sciences took him gradually ever further from rural Illinois, eventually landing him on the east coast. He and others had always enjoyed his father’s life stories and recognizing the unique nature of his father’s upbringing, he began documenting his father’s stories in 2015, eventually collecting over 80,000 words of notes. Along the Banks of the Spoon River is a selection of stories from the earliest years of his father’s life.
