John V. Calhoun

Originally from Columbus, Ohio, John Calhoun is a Research Associate of the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity, Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida. He has served as President of the Lepidopterists’ Society, President of the Ohio Lepidopterists, and Chairman of the Southern Lepidopterists’ Society. He has authored and coauthored over 160 publications, including four books, the most recent on the butterflies of Maine and the Canadian Maritime provinces. He is a recipient of the John Abbot Award in recognition of outstanding achievement in expanding knowledge of Lepidoptera in the southeastern United States. He is particularly interested in historical entomology, and for many years researched the contributions of John Abbot (1751-c.1840), authoring many publications about this influential pioneer naturalist. He is married and lives in Palm Harbor, Florida.
