L. Wade Powers

Lawrence (Larry) Wade Powers is a retired university professor of natural sciences writing fiction under the name L. Wade Powers. He lives in the high plains desert of Eastern Oregon with a beautiful wife and a strange cat. During a 45-year academic career, he earned degrees in laboratory medicine and in biology. A Ph.D. from the University of Texas in Austin resulted from research on social behavior in intertidal crabs. Powers has published a textbook on hematology and numerous monographs and technical papers in the medical and natural sciences. One of his major interests has always been literature and his desire to write fiction. His first novel, The Home, was published in 2017 about living in a foster institution during the 1950s. His second book (2019), Falling In Love and Other Misadventures, contains 20 plus short stories about the trials and treats of love in its many permutations. His second novel, The Party House (2019), presents an eclectic community of hippies, rednecks, tourists, and others in a small Texas Gulf Coast town in the 1970s. Larry is currently working on his third novel, New Albion Sunset, about the men Francis Drake left on the Pacific Northwest coast in 1579, establishing an outpost and claim for England. In addition to writing, Powers serves as a contributing editor for the Journal of the Shaw Historical Library and has been the nonfiction genre editor for Timberline Review, a literary journal based in Portland. He enjoys hiking, wildlife photography, tide pooling, and playing poker.
