Dan Slone

Dan Slone is an award-winning attorney with over 36 years of experience in the world of creating sustainable, walkable communities. He has written chapters in numerous non-fiction books and co-wrote A Legal Guide to Urban and Sustainable Development. Regretting the Rainbow Thieves is his first novel.

Over the course of six years Dan thought about the music, the religion, the politics, the philosophy and the relationships of the two species he introduced in Regretting (drawing on undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Philosophy). He has, however, completed the sequel, Refuge in the Pandemonium, in less than a year and it's out with beta readers now.

Dan began the book as therapy - a few hours away from real life each day, creating a world where solutions to big environmental problems had some chance of fruition. But Regretting, and now even more so, Refuge, is filled with action and adventure.

The main characters of these books, the Silth (also referred to by the somewhat less flattering label as "Paerries") are human-like in their features, except that they have parrot wings and tails. Moreover, they're about a foot-and-a-half tall. One of my wife's favorite stories is that I bought a doll of about that size after I finished the first draft, in order to test what challenges the Silth's size would create for them. I made a lot of changes because of that doll.

You can follow the progress of Refuge and get more information on how I wrote Regretting, as well as information on some of the issues I address by following www.worldofpaerries.com.
