Walter E. Carena

My real name is Walter Eduardo Carena Vázquez, I was born in Montevideo, Republic of Uruguay, in November 1956.

In a working-class neighborhood on the outskirts of my hometown, I spent my childhood in a difficult but peaceful way, together with my two brothers; I was educated perfectly, both at home and in public education.

In the latter, I discovered my fondness for written letters, since, in the obligatory essays of the educational programs of the Institution, I always obtained the best grades.

As soon as I learned to read, a strong literary inclination induced me to the healthy habit of reading, always provided with a dictionary of the Spanish language, which I practiced tirelessly.

From the classic children's reading, I later went on to "consume" adventure works by classic authors from around the world; when I was finishing my adolescence, I became interested in novels of political, police and psychological intrigues. Years later, I studied Social Psychology and Political Science in Montevideo and Buenos Aires, respectively.

At the age of twenty, I began to write the outlines of my first book, a novel based on the personal conflicts of youth living in an insecure society that does not guarantee them a promising future, represented by the three central characters of the work, in the multifaceted and multicultural South American continent, entitled "Voluntarios de una Quimera".

Due to financial difficulties, I was never able to edit and publish my outlines and they slept for many years among my most appreciated things.

However, I never stopped writing and perfecting myself in the art of written letters, until one day - for my own benefit and that of many who were waiting for this opportunity - the Internet appeared, and with this fabulous computer medium, online publishing companies emerged (such as Amazon/Kindle) and my dreams of editing, publishing and showing the world my own art, saw the light of reality when I did not hesitate to use this tool for that purpose.

It is worth noting that my literary style is a hybrid style, that is, a mix of fiction and reality. In my novels I tell stories of what happened, is happening, and possibly will happen. The physical places are usually real and so are some of the characters, although their identities are not.

While I was preparing my novels to leave them in the hands of Amazon/Kindle, I published opinion articles and reviews in the "Enredados" section of the Uruguayan newspaper LR 21; I created the blog unisudamericana blogspot, in which I wrote more than 300 posts about politics, social issues, psychology and literature. Currently, it has more than 190,000 views.

Today, I live in a fishing village on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in the State of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil.
